The hospitable Newling Ward family have owned and run St Michael's Manor for the over 40 years, and in that time have created a peaceful, elegant charm. Many of the bedrooms - some with four-poster beds, some sitting-room suites - overlook the picturesque grounds with wide sweeping lawns and beautiful lake. If you tip-toe quietly you'll see all manner of wildlife, or you can enjoy garden views from the conservatory dining room. Dinners are tantalisingly tasty, and if you're a vegetarian you'll be very happy with the excellent selection of dishes. The Roman remains of Verulamium and Verulam golf course - Home of the Ryder Cup - are within easy reach.
