Since the 16th century, the one time Lady St Mary Priory has offered sanctuary to travellers. In Hardy’s Dorset, “Far From the Madding Crowd”, it placidly stands in immaculate gardens on the bank of the River Frome. The Priory underwent a sympathetic conversion, the result is an unpretentiously charming hotel. The bedrooms are distinctively styled and feature family antiques, many rooms have views of the Purbeck Hills. A 16th-century clay barn has been transformed into the Boathouse, creating 4 spacious luxury suites at the river’s edge. The drawing room, residents’ lounge and intimate bar create a convivial atmosphere.
